Dear all,
We are pleased to announce that registration is now open for the Beckett & Politics conference, which will be held at the University of Reading on Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th November.
With papers from guest speakers, Prof. Matthew Feldman (Teesside University), Dr Elizabeth Barry (U. Warwick) and Dr Daniela Caselli (U. Manchester), and panel topics ranging from capitalism and postcolonial Ireland to the politics of gender, sex and violence, it promises to be an exciting and varied event.
The conference is part of the University's 'Beckett at Reading Week', which begins on Wednesday 2 November with the launch of an exhibition of selected materials from the Billie Whitelaw Beckett Archive, and culminates on Saturday 5th November with a tribute day for the late Mary Bryden, Professor of French Studies at the University of Reading, and Co-Director of the Beckett International Foundation, who died a year ago. The tribute day will include a lecture by Professor Jim Knowlson on Beckett and Billie Whitelaw, a panel reflecting on aspects of Mary’s research in French Studies and Beckett Studies, personal and musical tributes from Mary’s colleagues and friends, and readings from Mary’s own creative writing. The day is free and includes lunch.

We hope to see you in November!
