What David says....
Perhaps publishers should put a hold on adding content unasked, and only add it if customers are actually requesting it. Personally I'm tired of having to pay for added content that we didn't want and won't use.

David,
Some quick answers from Lancaster.
No, of course 6.5%-7.0% is not reasonable. If questioned, the publisher will no doubt tell us that the volumes have more content and articles than last year, but the fact remains that the HE sector has swallowed above-rpi inflation for far too long.
For those of us in the UK, "publishers' inflation" may soon be the least of our problems. The impact of Brexit on the value of Sterling is such that true price inflation on materials sourced in Dollars and Euros is likely to be 20%+. Some of us are already planning our contingencies.

It looks to me as if the prices for these journals (at least the print plus online prices for the UK market) have gone up between 6.5 and 7.0%. Is that right? Do members of this list, especially the librarians, feel that in our current economic climate 7% increases are reasonable?
(I will leave it to non-UK colleagues to comment on the intriguing Sterling to Euro and Dollar ratios being used.)
Best wishes
David
