Subject: Research Inquiry - 9th Meeting of the Society for Caribbean Studies - Yawney
Dear Caribbean Studies Mailing List,
Warm greetings, and I hope you are well. My name is Joseph Powell, and I
am writing to you in the hope that you may be able to assist me with
some research that I am conducting.
I am currently studying for an MPhil in Theology and Religious Studies
at the University of Cambridge, with a specialisation in World
Christianities, and a research project that attempts to offer the first
thorough scholarly analysis of the Rastafari 'Ital' diet. In my
research, I have come across barely any texts that offer more than a one
paragraph treatment of the subject, However, I then came across the work
of Carole Yawney, who I understand is tragically no longer with us, but
was a big contributor to the society in her day. I have since seen
referenced the title of a paper she presented at the 9th meeting of the
society in Herefordshire in 1985 entitled 'Strictly Ital: Rastafari
Livity and Holistic Health'. In attempting to track down this text I
found myself on the website for the society which lists archives, but
which unfortunately only go back to 2000. Having contacted Dr Patricia
Noxolo to ask if she might have any idea where I could locate the piece,
she suggested that I email the wider society to see if anyone might have
any ideas where the text could be located.
I was just wondering if anyone might have any idea how I could possibly
access this text or anything from the conference? Having the ability to
read, what sounds to me, like the only other lengthy consideration of
Ital principals and diets would make a humongous difference to my
project.
I am very grateful for you taking your time to read over this email, and
I look forward to hearing any suggestions that anyone might have.
Kind regards,
Joseph
