Project Archivist
A freelance Project Archivist is required to catalogue, preserve, digitise and promote the photographs and records of Liverpool St Helens Football Club located at Liverpool Record Office, Liverpool Central Library.
In brief, the Project Archivist will catalogue to ISDA (G) standards the extensive collection of Club archives already on deposit at Liverpool Record Office using CALM software. Throughout the 18 month project the Archivist will work with a number of partners including Edge Hill University, Cowley International College, St Helens College, St Helens Library Service, and the Saints RLFC Heritage Society.
The archivist will be based at Liverpool Record Office to catalogue the archive. They will also supervise two second year Edge Hill students, each on separate occasions, by providing an introduction to archive work. The archivist will be fully supported throughout by a professional Project Manager who will manage the interface with and between the above groups and outreach activities, including exhibitions and visits to schools.
The outcomes of the outreach work which will be based on the archive will also include the design of a small touring exhibition by St. Helens College, and a web site designed and created by Edge Hill University students.
Freelance fee: £41,104 for 335 days work over an 18 month period
Main responsibilities of the Project Archivist
• To catalogue the archive of the Club to recognised archival standards using CALM software so as to provide a
comprehensive multi-level description catalogue for on-line free text searching
• To liaise with the Conservation department over preservation requirements of the collection and to assist with r
repackaging
• To supervise and motivate students from partner organisations and assign discrete projects to enable promotion
of the collection
• To work with Liverpool St Helens FC to create the publication about the history of the Club featuring the archival
material and to agree the material to be used to form the exhibition
• To train and supervise volunteers to select and digitise items from the collection for the Club’s website
• To respond effectively to enquiries about the collection
• To work with the Project Manager to support and deliver the marketing plan
• To attend Project Committee meetings
• To assist the Project Manager in completing necessary periodic progress reports required by HLF
