Hello
We have just launched our new website into the wild.
http://rammuseum.org.uk/
The key developments for this version were:
Update from the 2011 website
Use our branding more to connect the digital visitor to the museum
Make it responsive because over 50% of visitors connect on mobile or tablet now
Use WordPress or similar instead of a bespoke CMS to save on cost and make publishing easier for all staff
Use SEO and readability plugins to encourage staff to produce good quality content (supported by training)
Add an element of personalisation that we will increase based on actual use
The main challenges were:
Aspirations pushing the budget!
Moving the content across following a content review
Time pressures because of the unexpected taking up time
Making a print brand work online
Only two of us to do everything
The best bits were:
Bristol Museums letting us use their opening times widget
Seeing our ticketing system link to the website
Having an Object of the Day link via our collections website API (website and API developed by Mike & Co at Thirty8 Digital)
Developer and designer at Toucan Design rising to all the challenges and good ideas we threw at them
Staff finding WordPress easy to use
If anyone would like to know more you're welcome to get in touch although I'm off for two weeks holiday to recover now!
Regards
Rick
