Library Service Development Manager

A South London public library service is recruiting a temporary Library Service Development Manager for approximately 8-10 weeks to start ASAP.
This temporary Library Service Development Manager job will involve working with a range of colleagues to provide direction and development opportunities for the library service, developing and implementing new national, regional and local initiatives, and planning the work of specialist staff and supporting their development. The Library Service Development Manager will coordinate programmes which support the operation and development of the library service, and organise the monitoring and review of service provision to ensure that the library service meets the needs of all library users.
This is an excellent opportunity to play a leading role in the successful delivery and monitoring of a broad range of library services across the borough. This is a strategic management role which would be ideally suited to someone with a proven track record in managing multiple front-facing library services and staff teams, ideally across several sites.
You will be an innovative and creative individual with a background in library policy development and implementation, with an excellent grasp of financial management and a good understanding of library staff management. Previous experience within public libraries would be a distinct advantage as the Library Service Development Manager will be required to quickly take on service management responsibilities for a diverse and busy inner London borough public library service.
Pay rate: £23.68 per hour
Reader Services Librarian

This temporary Reader Services Librarian job will involve supporting product and audience development by leading on the following areas:
• To develop and deliver a quality stock acquisition and management system
• To deliver an ambitious and creative reader development programme that meets the needs of both children and adults in a diverse inner city area
• To initiate and undertake project work with a range of partners

Librarian – Performance Data Analyst

A South London public library service is recruiting a temporary library role which would suit a Librarian with expertise in analysing library performance data to facilitate service improvements and demonstrate value to library users. This job is expected to last approximately 8-10 weeks and is to start ASAP.
This job will involve supporting product and audience development by leading on the following areas:
• To analyse and provide performance information based on local and national data
• Undertake user surveys, benchmarking and analysing information to produce and present outcomes including recommendations for service improvement
• To contribute to continuous service improvement through challenge and innovative thinking
• To initiate and undertake project work with a range of partners
This is an interesting opportunity to improve and add value to library service delivery through a process of continuous service review and analysis across the borough.
This job would suit a qualified librarian, or equivalent practical experience, with a good knowledge of the latest developments in library service delivery, an excellent knowledge of performance data and methods of collecting data, a clear ability to analyse library performance data and produce solutions to problems, and experience of leading and managing performance improvement. You will have experience of digital resources, undertaking project work with a range of external partners, interpreting community needs, and ideally a good knowledge of an inner city public library service.

Local Studies Librarian

A South London public library service is recruiting a temporary Local Studies Librarian for approximately 8-10 weeks to start ASAP.
This temporary Local Studies Librarian job will support the Archivist in providing a high level service by managing, promoting and developing the Local History & Archives collections, and promoting and marketing the services of the Local History Centre. The Local Studies Librarian will also acquire new materials to ensure that the collections are as comprehensive as possible, record, catalogue and index new materials, and assist with the implementation and co-ordination of heritage strategies to ensure that the service is meeting user needs.
If you have a passion for local history, a background working in a local studies library, archive or special collection, and a commitment to helping users access unique and historic library materials then this is the job for you.
This job would suit a qualified Librarian or Archivist, or equivalent practical experience, with a background working in a local history/archives/museums environment. The Local Studies Librarian will be a functional expert in the use of ICT for information storage and retrieval, and will ideally have experience working with schools to promote the local studies service.
Pay rate: £16.01 per hour
Two vacancies in North London:
Service Development Librarian

A North London Public Library Service is recruiting for an interim Librarian starting in October and expected to last six months. Working within the central Service Development team you will work on a range of interesting and challenging projects in support of front-line service delivery.
The team of Service Development Librarians lead on stock review and development across the borough, with each Librarian taking ownership of specific parts of the collection. Service Development Librarians also plan and lead on a programme of events and activities to meet the needs of the community. The current programme of projects includes an initiative to promote web and IT training to entrepreneurs within the borough who are interested in setting up a business, and an initiative to encourage healthcare professions to prescribe books to patients to help address a range of health issues. The library service will soon be embarking upon a programme of transformation which will require the Service Development Librarians to work with various stakeholders to plan how stock is displayed across the borough’s libraries.
Working as part of a close-knit, friendly team this is a great opportunity to work collaboratively with other team members, while also taking a lead on clearly defined project areas. The job is 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Late working and weekends is not part of the normal working pattern, although may be required on occasion. The job is based in the borough’s picturesque HQ building, although some time will also be spent at branches across the borough.
This job would suit a creative Librarian who embraces change and demonstrates both adaptability and a calm and measured approach to work. Previous experience working with library management systems and some experience of stock procurement is essential, while experience of imaginative service delivery and a background specifically within public libraries would be a distinct advantage.
Pay rate: £14.18 per hour
Service Development Team Leader

A North London Public Library Service has an interim job starting in October and it is expected to last six months. Working in the central Service Development team you will manage the work of five Service Development Librarians as they deliver a programme of interesting and challenging projects across the borough.
The team of Service Development Librarians lead on stock development, event planning and management and various other activities across the borough, including revenue generating projects and initiatives which require a great deal of service promotion and partnership working. As Team Leader you will oversee the delivery of these projects, ensuring that deadlines and revenue generation targets are met, and service transformation initiatives across the borough are a success.
Managing a close-knit, friendly team this is a great opportunity for a creative individual to guide and support a group of professional librarians as they reach out to the community and front line library staff. The job is 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Late working and weekends are not part of the normal working pattern, although may be required on occasion. The job is based in the borough’s picturesque HQ building, although some time will also be spent at branches across the borough.
This job would suit an adaptable library manager with previous team management experience and strong leadership skills. You will embrace service transformation and demonstrate a calm and measured approach to work. Previous experience working with library management systems and some experience of stock procurement is essential, as is experience of imaginative service delivery and a background in managing public library teams.
Pay rate: £15.61 per hour
