By way of apologising for my non-attendance at the GEM conference this year,
here is a timely reminder that National Sporting Heritage Day is on 30
September.
The UK-wide event aims to raise awareness (amongst both the public and the
museum community) of the importance, and relevance, of sporting collections.
You could put on a grand event or maybe even simply invite local sports clubs in
for a special viewing of something that perhaps doesn't often see the light of
display.
You do not need to be a sports-specific museum. Many of you will have sports
memorabilia in your collections. Have a look.
Tell us about your event here: http://www.nationalsportingheritageday.org.uk/
What better time, so soon after Euro 2016, Olympics and Paralympics, to make the
link between sport and museums!?
If you have any comments/observations on/about National Sporting Heritage Day or
how to explore the potential of sports collections please drop me an email
before next Tuesday as I will be attending a coordinators meeting in Crewe on
Thursday. I'll raise your questions/observations and they will be most welcomed
by all I am sure.
So, please forward (rugby/football) this email and help us get into the swing
(golf) of celebrating and promoting sports collections across the UK.
