Dear colleagues-- I've pasted below the advertisement for the position
in social geography at Ohio State.
Becky
The Department of Geography at The Ohio State University is seeking
applications for an anticipated tenure track assistant professor
beginning autumn 2017. We seek a scholar with the potential to sustain
a strong, externally funded research program, advise students and
teach courses in social geography with particular focus on urban
issues and an emphasis in areas such as social justice, inequality,
race, gender, or sexuality. The successful candidate will bring
cutting-edge scholarship to the urgent 21st-century issues of urban
sustainability, social justice, health, or habitability. The
successful candidate may draw on a wide range of methodological
approaches and must be able to teach a range of undergraduate and
graduate level courses in human geography. Applicants must have a
Ph.D., preferably in geography, although degrees in related fields
will be considered.
This hire is part of an initiative to increase faculty diversity and
create a faculty cluster at Ohio State. We wish to promote research
and teaching on topics prevalent in race, ethnicity, gender/sex and
disparities in modern society. The position proposals, as a group,
approach these issues from various perspectives, building on the
strengths of the units proposing them. We envision the Race,
Ethnicity, Gender/Sex and Disparities in Modern Society cluster as a
foundation on which we can build with other colleges, expanding areas
of interest and research as faculty are added. The new cluster of
faculty will be able to build a network with many committed
professors already at home in the College of Arts and Sciences within
the Diversity and Identity Studies Collective, the Department of
Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and the Department of African
American and African Studies. Graduate certificates in this area and
undergraduate bridge programs are also being developed to support
this initiative.
Qualifications: A Ph.D. in geography or a closely related field is
required. All applicants are expected to have very strong and fundable
research programs and to contribute to both graduate and
undergraduate supervision and instruction. Appointment is contingent
on the university’s verification of credentials and other information
required by law and/or university policies, including but not limited
to a criminal background check.
About Columbus: The Ohio State University campus is located in
