Dear Critters
I hope this is of interest, please accept mumbled apologies for cross posting or irrelevance
Its your last chance to visit "Loitering With Intent: The Art and Politics of Walking" at People's History Museum Manchester UK July 23rd-October 14th*
The exhibition celebrates ten years of The Loiterers Resistance Movement (The LRM), a collective of artists, activists, academic and wanderers interested in psychogeography, public space and uncovering the hidden stories of the city.
The LRM manifesto says “We can’t agree on what psychogeography means but we all like plants growing out of the side of buildings, looking at things from new angles, radical history, drinking tea and getting lost. Gentrification, advertising and blandness make us sad. We believe there is magick in the Mancunian rain. Our city is wonderful and made for more than shopping. The streets belong to everyone and we want to reclaim them for play and revolutionary fun.”
The gallery is full of art by LRM members and friends from Manchester and beyond who are inspired by creative walking. We want to demonstrate the diversity of contemporary psychogeography because we believe the derive offers a valuable tool to critically engage with, and affectively remap, space. There is also archive material, short films, music and tools to take away to start your own explorations.
Psychogeography must be a practice as well as a theory so we have programmed a season of events including workshops, talks, symposiums and of course walks. The lineup is here: www.thelrm.org/events. In the final two weeks we have walks around Liminal spaces, a musical tour supporting WE SHALL OVERCOME 2016, curators talks, an exploration of literary psychogeography, work with campaigners on the right to roam and our regular First Sunday derive.
It would be wonderful if you could join us.. Please feel free to forward this onto anyone you know who may be interested. More details can be found here: http://www.phm.org.uk/whatson/loitering-with-intent/ or please do give me a holler on email [log in to unmask] or twitter @thelrm
Thanks to everyone who has already visited and supported the exhibition, it is very much appreciated.
My very best wishes
Morag
