Categorical terminology would probably be contentious, and best
avoided. But it is true that over recent years poets who never thought
they would see the inside of the poetry prize machine if they lived to
be 200, have found themselves winning prizes or being shortlisted
(which is almost as significant) -- RF Langley, Denise Riley, Roy
Fisher, me, Lee Harwood, JH Prynne, John James, so many I begin to
forget. I'd add to this list Kai Miller and Vahni Capildeo whatever
they may have expected. It's not new. Possibly people are finding
themselves able to read where previously they could not or were told
they could not. Did Geoffrey Hill win something at some time or
other, and if not why not?
Anyway it's all a kind of mirage, isn't it.

Hi Jamie, maybe it is just your curiosity but I can see that if I say
too much on this it is likely to be unproductive. So let's just stay
positive and enjoy the moment etc.
