Wedding-Filming near the Urban Garden-Plots
Those cars so swish and old have to be
wedding cars, and yes they are - there’s the bride
billowing wide in white - a bridesmaid in pale green,
clutching a bouquet, fusses with her train.
Where’s the groom? easily overlooked,
in his dark suit and smoothed-down hair.
The bride must be her hairdresser’s pride,
so lustrously spectacular her coiffure.
There’s not just a photographer but
a cameraman at work gesturing and
bossing all present, even the chauffeurs.
I walk away to enjoy other sights,
pop-up garden-plots* above the car-park -
heirloom seeds, worm farms, composting,
kale-cult, pumpkin-harvesting -
flourishing even in midwinter.
Returning - what now? - lads on skateboards
have taken over! they’re circling the bride
on the traffic roundabout, as if of the event.
Their pride as street performers blends
with the crouching cameraman’s - so long
as she has patience - bare arms in winter -
they’re circling and ducking and jumping.
Tomorrow’s August, renamed Sprinter.**
