The molecular quantum dynamics group at the University of Rostock announces a PhD position in Computational Molecular physics with a focus on Environmental Physics for three years. Applications are invited for a PhD focused on theoretical and computational modelling of phosphorus-related processes at reactive soil surfaces. The research project involves investigation of several reactive soil surfaces including soil organic matter (SOM) as well as soil minerals. Binding of different organic and inorganic phosphorus species at reactive soil surfaces will be investigated under different environmental conditions. Specifically, molecular dynamics simulations will be carried out using various theoretical and computational methodologies including molecular mechanics, semi-empirical methods, density functional theory, and hybrid versions thereof. The work will be carried out in a close collaboration with several experimental groups within a consortium funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (SPP 1685).
The research will be conducted under supervision of Prof. Oliver Kühn and Dr. Ashour Ahmed in the molecular quantum dynamics group at Institute of Physics, University of Rostock. For more info, see

The successful candidate will have a Master or Diploma in Physics or Chemistry with a focus on theory. While knowledge of German language is not required, the candidate should have good communication skills in English.
The salary is according to German standards (TVL E13, 50% with possibility of later upgrade).
The starting date is flexible, but an immediate start would be preferable.
Applications should be sent to [log in to unmask]
