To the rear of western battery at Southsea Castle, Portsmouth,
Hampshire, there is a stretch of walling with what appears to be
spaced loop holes. Looking at old aerial photos it would seem that the
wall originally continued encompassing the rear of entire work along
to the eastern end of the eastern battery.
The question I raise here, is whether there is a technical term for
this type of wall. There is no evidence of any parapet or walkway, if
anything it is like very tall carnot wall that you might find
surmounting the scarp of a ditch/moat.
