Dear all -
Project proposals for the 2017 round of the Oxford University Museums AHRC-funded Collaborative Doctoral Partnerships (CDPs) are now invited: http://www.museums.ox.ac.uk/CDP
Proposals to co-supervise a studentship should be made jointly by an academic based at a UK Higher Education Institution (other than Oxford), and a member of Oxford University Museums staff. Each doctoral student will be based at the partner HEI, and will be supported through the partnership in undertaking research at the Oxford museum.
Led by Dan Hicks, the scheme operates across the four museums of Oxford University - the Ashmolean, the Museum of the History of Science, Oxford University Museum of Natural History, and the Pitt Rivers Museum. The first three awards were made in 2016 (in the fields of History of Art, African History, and Classics and Ancient History), and up to three further studentships will be funded from 2017. An open call for applications from potential students for the studentships for the successful proposals will be made in Spring 2017, with this cohort of students starting their research in October 2017.
We can support CDP proposals on any topic provided that the proposed project represents excellent research, and is feasible for collaborative study at doctoral level. In addition to these criteria, priority will be given to applications that involve new or unexpected collaborations across AHRC’s subject areas, which have not previously been developed by the museum or museums in question, and which make a demonstrable impact across the academic, cultural and public spheres. All proposals must fall within AHRC’s areas of subject coverage.
Research projects may involve any aspect of the museums’ operations and profile, including not only collections history and other object-focused studies, but also other aspects of museums such as education, conservation, architecture, communities, media and communication, art, or information studies.
Potential applicants are encouraged to discuss their projects with Dan Hicks and Hattie Warburton at an early stage - [log in to unmask] and [log in to unmask]
Full details of how to apply, including FAQs and the application form, along with details of the three successful studentships that will commence in October 2016, are online: http://www.museums.ox.ac.uk/CDP
More general details and background for the scheme can be found on the CDP Consortium web pages here — http://www.ahrc-cdp.org/
The deadline for proposals is 5pm on Friday 25 November 2015. Each Museum will have its own additional internal deadlines and review procedures before this date, and so potential supervisors should make contact as soon as possible.
Informal enquiries from potential partners based at UK Higher Education Institutions (other than Oxford), who are unsure of whom to approach within Oxford University Museums, are welcome, and should be sent - as should any other questions about the programme - to [log in to unmask] or [log in to unmask]
