CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
Workshop: Dynamic family forms and gender practices in the transnational
space.
GENDERED MOBILITIES, 25-26 November, 2016, University of Eastern Finland
(Joensuu), http://etmudays.etmu.fi/en/.
Co-organised by: Aija Lulle, University of Eastern Finland and University
of Sussex and Agnese Bankovska, University of Eastern Finland and
University of Helsinki.
The workshop aims to explore the theoretical and methodological dimensions
of the family and gender relations in the transnational context: gender
notions, gendered inequalities and generational shifts. Transnational lives
of the families reveal diverse models and concepts of the family and gender
relationships beyond conventional understandings of how ‘familyhood’ is
maintained and re-created across borders.
We encourage presentations that analyze gender aspects in the transnational
families where different cultural values are re-evaluated and co-exist.
Moreover, the changing generational attitudes bring in new perspectives on
gendered perceptions and practices.
We invite papers from various disciplines that address the gender and
family relationships and dynamics in the transnational contexts.
The topics of the papers may include, but are not limited to:
· The shift and appropriation of the gendered notions in the
transnational space.
· Gender dynamics among diverse transnational family models:
nuclear families, extended families, rainbow families etc.
· Maintaining culturally embedded gender concepts and practices
among transnational families.
· Different spheres and representations of gendered inequalities in
the transnational families.
· The mutuality of gender and generation in transnational families.
Language of the workshop: English.
Please send your abstracts of 250 words to both organizers by 10 September
2016 to Aija Lulle ([log in to unmask]) and Agnese Bankovska (
