The School of Mathematics are looking to recruit Teaching Associates in Probability & Statistics. We have a number of roles of varying lengths, the minimum being 12 months, and would be willing to consider term time only working if preferred.
The job duties are teaching as agreed with the Head of School and Head of Group. The successful candidate will be expected to teach, mainly first and second year courses, and be involved in tutorial classes and examinations. It is anticipated that the workload will be roughly equivalent to lecturing 3 one semester courses, together with examination and project marking.
The Probability & Statistics group in Bristol carries out research on many aspects of this science: modelling of random phenomena, methods for the analysis of data, and computational techniques for performing this modelling and analysis. The applications of this research are many and varied, ranging from the analysis of solar flares to robot navigation, from the behaviour of socially organised animals to traffic queues and from genetic research to signal processing.
The School of Mathematics is a supporter of the LMS Good Practice Scheme aiming at advancing women's careers in mathematics http://www.maths.bris.ac.uk/admin/life/women/. We particularly welcome applications from women for this post. The University has numerous family friendly policies which can be found on the Positive Working Environment website http://www.bris.ac.uk/pwe/.
These posts are offered on a fixed-term contract from August 2016 (or as soon as possible thereafter) until a date to be confirmed.
