medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Greetings all,
I realize that the topic above has been much argued over, and am looking for good recent bibliography (especially in the form of articles that could be assigned to students, but also more detailed studies.) IŽd like to know the 'state of the art' on the question of when, and on what topics, parish priests would have preached to their congregations during the 12th - 16th centuries (realizing that the situation in the 12th c. is going to be different from that in the 16th!) By 'when' I mean not only 'what days' but 'what time'. Were sermon inserted into the Mass, or would they have taken place before or after? What information do we have about the reading of saints' lives (or preaching about the saints in question) on their feast days? What role would the Golden Legend (or translations of it) have played? If there are preachers handbooks that shed light on these topics have been edited and/or translated, IŽd like to know about them.
Thanks in advance,
Meg
