Dear all
I have summarized all the suggestions received on- and off-list:

Jeroen Mesters suggested using a simple syringe-pump "(because of the pressure, make sure to use syringes with screw-lock) as these can be purchased for about 500-750 US $".
Tristan Croll - something a bit of work - "the little peristaltic pumps sold by Welco (www.welco.net) are wonderful. Technically they're OEM suppliers, but in my last email to them they were willing to supply small numbers (even individual units) to universities. You'd have to provide your own controller (DC or stepper motor, depending on model), but those are available very cheaply from hobby stores everywhere), and a custom mount can be laser-cut from polycarbonate for next to nothing."
