One major problem with this report (posted to list as warning to anyone
writing about this country) is that it refers randomly to different
geographical/political areas. Headlined "How the UK voted"; subheading
"How Britain voted"; mention of SNP voters but national identity is
reported based on "English not British" etc comparisons. From the last
bullet in the national identity section, it appears the question may
have been phrased as "Scottish not British" there, and I guess perhaps
in Wales (if polled) they used "more Welsh than British - but maybe it
was phrased "more English/Welsh/Scottish than British" in all areas?
Asking such questions in NI (part of the UK but not Britain) is even
more sensitive.
I also bridled at the first claim, "On referendum day I surveyed 12,369
people ...". Don't you hate bosses who give no credit to employees and
co-workers? Especially unelected lords.
Given the `biggest single reason for wanting to leave the EU was “the
principle that decisions about the UK should be taken in the UK”', it's
interesting to hear already that HSBC are likely to move several hundred
jobs in euro-clearing from London to Paris.
