Dear all,
Here is the summary of responses I received from Lis Link members regarding "Click and Collect" type reservation services:
In total I had five responses, thanks for those.
1. Do you advertise how long it will take for items to be made available? All 5 said no they did not state a time
2. Is this run separately to your normal reservation system? All 5 said it was part of the same system, they just allowed reservations on items that were available on the shelves
3. How long do you keep items on the reservation shelf for users to collect? Two said 7 days, one said 2-5 days, one said 3 days, and one said two weeks
4. Do you offer this service for multi site libraries? Where there were multi site libraries (4) all said they offered the service across sites
5. How does this work for items requested from a different site? All 4 libraries with more than one site said that books were transported between sites by van. Reports were run at least once a day
Other comments:
"We went from around 70,000 requests in a year to around 120,000. We trialed it first for a year (and it was really tough with no extra staff) and then surveyed the students-they really like it and so we managed to get extra staffing resources." (University of Sheffield)
"Reservations apply to all copies of a title so anyone with a copy on loan would not be able to renew it until the reservation was satisfied" (University of Greenwich)
"Any hold stops renewal and we place a title hold which stops all copies. This does stop renewal for 24 copies if one is needed" (Buckinghamshire New University)
"Students who find items on the shelf are able to take priority over students who have placed holds" (University of Sheffield)
Please contact me if you wish to know anything more.

Subject: "Click & Collect" type reservation service
Dear all,
We are looking at a feasibility study into providing a "Click & Collect style" service where users can place reservations on items that are on the shelves (i.e. not on loan).
We would apprecaite feedback from anyone who has a similar service, and will summarise responses for the list:
1. Do you advertise how long it will take for items to be made available?
2. Is this run separately to your normal reservation system?
3. How long do you keep items on the reservation shelf for users to collect?
4. Do you offer this service for multi site libraries?
5. How does this work for items requested from a different site?
I would really appreciate any comments/feedback with the next two weeks.
Kind regards
