********* Conference Announcement *********
UCL Italian Department is delighted to announce a one-day conference on Dante that will take place on Saturday, 9th July 2016, entitled THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST. ETHICS, POLITICS AND LAW IN RELATION TO DANTE. The conference follows up Dante’s 750th anniversary in 2015 and the 140th anniversary of UCL’s Dante bequest from Henry Clark Barlow (†1876). It focuses on areas of current debate in Dante’s thought and works, such as his philosophical formation through a variety of textual and non-textual sources, his relation to and knowledge of the Medieval legal system and rhetoric, his political engagement.
