"The School of English is known for its international-quality research in English Literature, Theatre and Performance, Creative Writing, Applied Linguistics, Literary Linguistics, and English Language. Much of this activity is passed onto students through our research-led approach to learning and teaching. With over 50 members of academic staff, the School of English is able to offer outstanding teaching across a wide range of subject areas. In recent years five members of staff have received Senate Awards for Teaching Excellence, and one of our staff has been awarded a National Teaching Fellowship.
The School of English is seeking to appoint a Teaching Associate in Eighteenth and Nineteenth-Century Literature, to provide cover while Professor Angela Wright is on a Leverhulme Fellowship.
You will have, or be close to completing a PhD in a relevant area, experience of teaching and will contribute to teaching and examining at undergraduate and taught postgraduate levels. You will also be expected to undertake appropriate administrative duties.
You will be expected to teach undergraduate modules in Restoration and Eighteenth-Century Literature, and Romantic and Victorian Prose and Poetry, as well as delivering a number of seminars upon Romantic Gothic to a specialised MA module, and contributing more broadly to the delivery of our successful MA programmes in Eighteenth and Nineteenth-Century Literature. Expertise in the areas of Romantic and Gothic literature may be an advantage.
