CONFERENCE - deadline is today
Christianity in Comparison
13 - 06 - 2016
Trinity College
University of Cambridge, UK
We are pleased to announce that on Monday, 13 June, 2016 a student led Anthropology of Christianity conference on Christianity that will take place at the University of Cambridge. Scholars at any stage of their research are invited to contribute to either of the following two themes.
The emergence of the Anthropology of Christianity over the past 15 years has meant a proliferation of case studies on Christian communities worldwide. By now, we have gained a good sense of the various ways in which Christianity engages with local realities. Largely lacking to this point, however, are studies that subject this material to comparative analysis. Given that from its inception the Anthropology of Christianity has been envisioned as a comparative project, this appears as a lacunae well worth addressing. We therefore invite papers that report on explicitly comparative, anthropological research on Christianity.
Next to comparing concrete cases, a second aim of this conference is to compare different disciplinary approaches to the study of Christianity. Past years have seen the emergence of such fields as World Christianity, with interests related to but distinct from those pursued by anthropologists. The question then, is how these different perspectives might inform and benefit from each other. As a way toward exploring this question, we invite papers taking an interdisciplinary approach to the study of Christianity.
Abstracts: 200–300 words, deadline June 6, 2016.
