PhD Studentships in Service Design for Meaningful Experience and Innovation
The School of the Arts, English and Drama at Loughborough University is pleased to announce four fully funded PhD studentships. The studentships will be paid for a period of up to three years, starting in October 2016, and will cover tuition fees at the UK/EU rate, and provide a tax-free stipend of 14,296 British Pounds *.
The School offers an exciting interdisciplinary research environment and we welcome the submission of high-quality proposals that have the potential to make a substantive contribution to research within the School. Among several research areas, of particular interest to the Service Design Mini Centre for Doctoral Training are proposals that address this research theme:
Service Design for Meaningful Experience and Innovation
Supervisors: Dr. Kathy Pui Ying Lo, Andrew Selby
Description: This PhD study expands service design to the advanced scope of design for meaningful experience and innovation. Applicants are encouraged to explore how service design will help people achieve meaningful profound experiences, or help businesses add value through meaning-oriented offerings. The research will potentially result in not only original knowledge contributions that advance service design from procedure-centric to meaning-oriented domains, but also a proposed service innovation that can be developed through enterprise initiatives. Applicants need to specify the subject matter of service innovation, of particular interest are service innovations in (but not limited to): Tourism, hospitality, interactive digital media, creative industry, cultural industry, brands, or visual media etc. Applicants also need to specify the particular target audience(s) that will benefit from this research, and the potential impact of this research. The proposed research needs to be applied research that combines the advancement of knowledge and service innovation. *The value of the tax free stipend in years two and three will increase in line with Research Council recommended values. The above stipend rate is for UK/EU students. The stipend rate for non-EU students will be 3467 British Pounds after covering international tuition fees.
