Dear all,
I believe that this funded PhD opportunity between Newcastle University and the V&A is likely to be of interest to members of the MCG list.
We are looking for a candidate with a real motivation to explore novel digital approaches in order to connect a very interesting historic photographic archive to a variety of audiences, while engaging with questions of interpretation and curation in the digital realm.

Media, Culture, Heritage at Newcastle University in partnership with the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified applicant for a full-time collaborative PhD studentship commencing on 1 October 2016.
The doctoral project will explore innovative digital media approaches in engaging a variety of audiences with historic photographic archives online and in the gallery. This is an exciting opportunity to pursue original doctoral research working with a significant photographic collection from the Broomfield Archive, whilst collaborating with an interdisciplinary group of academic supervisors from the School of Arts and Cultures at Newcastle University and curators from the Word & Image Department at the V&A.
The successful applicant will have a large degree of freedom in developing her/his project. It is envisaged that this project will seek to engage with a variety of stakeholders, including museum visitors, and will actively explore a variety of digital platforms and interpretive/curatorial approaches. The project will combine both theoretical and empirical exploration on how historic photographic archives converse with other cultural content/products in the digital realm and relate to people's everyday life.
Deadline for applications: Tuesday 17 May 2016.
Interested applicants are encouraged to discuss their proposal with Dr Areti Galani ([log in to unmask]).

With best wishes,
Areti
