italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
Cari colleghi,
I would like to thank all of you who responded to my query re the
Giunti. When I return to New York (I,m currently in Florence for a
conference) next week, I will gather all your references into one
email and then send them to the list.
I have another short question, to which I should know the answer, but
which I will post anyway:
When and under what circumstances did the lily of Florence come to be
shared by France? When and under what circumstances did the lily
become the symbol of Florence? Is it a reference to the Annunciation?
And finally, is there a connection between the French "dauphin" and
the dolphins which adorn so many of the books published in Italy
during the cinquecento, the Aldine anchor being the most famous?
(OK-quattro domande--chiedo scusa).
Grazie di nuovo, buon lavoro e buon, estate.
Jim Ward
