Dear all,
further to Huw Davies' post yesterday, the BGA is keen to
have our members and UK-based geophysicists and their
colleagues recognised by the award of EGU medals. In addition
to the Love medal, for which Huw sits on the nominations
committee, there are several for which BGA members might
be suitable nominees:
Arthur Holmes medal (Union-level award for solid-Earth geosciences)
Arne Richter awards (Union-level for early-career scientists)
Gutenberg (seismology)
Huygens (instrumentation)
Darcy (hydrogeology)
McHarg ("Earth and space science informatics")
Lewis Fry Richardson (nonlinear processes)
Agassiz (cryospheric sciences)
Neel (earth magnetism and rock physics) (Phil Meredith won this this year)
Petrus Peregrinus (also earth magnetism and rock physics)
Plinius (natural hazards)
Bunsen (volcanology)
Soloviev (also natural hazards)
Mueller (tectonics)
Vening Meinesz (geodesy)
and some others for which you might consider your colleagues.
The full list is at:
http://www.egu.eu/awards-medals/awards-and-medals/
and the nominations forms and procedures can be accessed from
links on the lefthand side of this page.
I'm happy to help with nominations if I can.
Don't forget the deadline is 15th June.
Sheila Peacock
BGA Committee.
