1. News from ALT

1.1 A very warm welcome to our newest Organisational Member - Heriot-Watt University!

1.2 ALT and ILTA working in partnership
This week sees the Annual Conference, #ilta2016, of the Irish Learning Technology Association. The conference brings together the Irish community and international delegates to share practice and research and celebrate the Jennifer Burke Award for Innovation in Teaching and Learning. Participating in the event is one example of how we have worked actively in partnership since ALT and ILTA signed a new partnership agreement in 2014. ALT and ILTA are both membership charities working to enhance learning technology knowledge and practise in education.This year #ilta2016 we are sharing an update on accreditation for Learning Technology focused on the CMALT framework.

1.3 Announcing the 10th Learning Technologist of the Year Awards - closing date: Sunday 12 June 2016.

1.4 2016 Call for nominations for Honorary Life Membership - closing date: Friday, 10 June 2016
ALT awards Honorary Life Membership to individuals whom ALT believes have made an outstanding and sustained contribution to the advancement of ALT's aims for the development of learning technology in a regional, national or international context through research, practice, policy-development, leadership, or a combination of these.

2. ALT and ALT Member Events

2.1 ALT Annual Conference 2016: Connect, Collaborate, Create - ‘Early Bird’ Registration now open!
The 2016 Annual Conference of the Association for Learning Technology will take place at Warwick University, 6-8 September 2016.The conference provides an international platform for Learning Technology research, practice and policy work from across sectors. Confirmed speakers include Josie Fraser, Ian Livingstone CBE, Lia Commissar, and Donna Lanclos & David White.

Early bird registration offers a significant discount across all conference fees and is open until 30 June. ALT members are also entitled to a further 20% discount on attendance.

2.2 Blended Learning Essentials: Getting started - course preview 15 June 2016 12:30 to 1:30 pm Location: Online
This webinar is about the upcoming Futurelearn course Blended Learning Essentials: Getting started - A free course for the Vocational Education and Training sector to promote effective practice and pedagogy in blended learning. The course starts on 4 July and is open to all.

2.3 ALT South West-South East Learning Technology Group information session 9 Jun 2016 11:00am to 12:00pm Location: Online

2.4 ALT West Midlands Region Learning Technology Group Meeting 13 Jun 2016 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM Keele University, Keele, United Kingdom
The first meeting of the WMRLTG will be held at Keele University on Monday, 13th June between 10am and 1pm. The theme of the meeting is ‘digital capability’ and we are encouraging members to offer presentations or to lead discussions at the meeting based on any of the dimensions covered in the JISC project ( http://go.alt.ac.uk/24BfvyH ).

3.1 MOOC Survey - Closing 31 May 2016
Taken, run or produced a MOOC? Complete the www.moocsurvey.org. Whatever your role is within Higher Education your views and opinions are valuable, and appreciated. This survey aims to understand the effects of MOOCs on institutions in the following areas:
* Impacts that production of MOOCs are having within Institutions
* The process of how MOOCs are being implemented
* Drivers and rationale for producing MOOCs

4.1 Seminar by Dr Ole Smørdal, EngageLab, University of Oslo - 27 June 2016 5:00pm - 7:00pm Lecture Theatre 3, Management School Tea and cakes followed by seminar on:
Participatory Design & Design for Participation, a case with Talkwall. Talkwall is a micro-blogging and visualization tool, at the heart of a new research project being undertaken by University of Oslo and University of Cambridge (2016-2020), targeting secondary school students’ collaboration and critical thinking within three core domains (language, social science and natural science). 5.2 Social Media for Learning in HE Conference - Sheffield Hallam - 16 December 2016
Call Extended to 01 June 2016.
The second year of the conference has the theme of 'The Empowered Learner?', which will enable the sector to critically and creatively explore the role of social media in learner empowerment. 5.3 Call for papers for the 2nd Panhellenic Conference for the Promotion of Innovation in Education by June the 15th
The 2nd Panhellenic Conference for the Promotion of Innovation in Education, which will take place in Larisa, Greece, in Oct 21-23, 2016, accepts papers written in English or Greek by June the 15th, 2016.
