Practical research data management
19 April 2016
University of Essex, Room 2N2.4.16, 10.30-12.30
How confident are you that you know how to manage, organise and store your project's research data properly? How much do you know about keeping data safe, by backing up and encrypting, quality and version controlling them, so that you or any colleagues on the same project know where to find the data at any time, and can easily understand them anytime in the future?
This half-day workshop will guide you through the basics of how to manage and store data well and how to plan and implement good data management within research projects. It will cover annotating and documenting data, data formats, storage and security matters. Our course aims to ensure that you are confident you won’t finish your research project with your data lost, in a mess, or at risk.
This session will help you:
• use techniques for annotating and documenting data
• be aware of tools you can use to version control and back-up data
• apply good practices in storing and transferring data
• be able to use everyday tools for encrypting data
• assign roles and responsibilities for the management of research data
