Reporting to the Director of Science, the Science Learning Manager is responsible for leading and managing the in-house Science Learning team in the successful delivery of the science strategy and to ensure the development and delivery of innovative, high quality, science experiences that inspire, challenge and engage learners.
This position is fixed term for 1 year covering a period of maternity leave and is based on a full-time contract based on a 37.5 hour working week on an annual salary of £37,163 - £40,989.
Science Learning Manager, role description:
To develop and share the vision and mission of GSC.
To provide leadership to the team in the implementation of GSC’s science strategy and department operations.
To develop and build an effective team that is creative, innovative and industry leading in the development of science communications.
To co-ordinate and manage the resources and scheduling of science learning programmes and projects for education, public, community and corporate clients.
To oversee the development, delivery and evaluation of science learning programmes aimed at education, public and community audiences identified in our 5-year strategy, ensuring the quality of content and delivery.
To contribute to the development of new programmes and exhibits and co-ordinate the development of supporting learning materials.
To ensure GSC programmes have interesting, current and relevant content and are delivered in an entertaining, effective, and professional manner that inspire, challenge and engage all audiences.
To lead the development & delivery of projects and other activities for both education & public visitors which are relevant to overall GSC plans, curriculum requirements and meet the needs of our customers.
To liaise with other departments regarding their needs for forthcoming events and co-ordinate resources accordingly.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
Qualified to degree or postgraduate level
Proven record of delivering science experiences to schoolchildren, public and community groups.
Strong people management and project management experience.
Straightforward and inclusive style of management, which includes experience in staff and budgetary control.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Personal Qualities:
Ability to develop, motivate and generate enthusiasm in others to convey learning of science & technology.
Ability to motivate and lead a team and cooperate well with others to get things done.
Well organised with good time management.
A high level of professionalism.
