Dear all,
I'm currently working with a team of researchers to study food sharing in
100 cities around the world (full list of cities here
<http://sharecity.ie/food-sharing-goes-global-with-sharecity/>).
SHARECITY <http://www.sharecity.ie/> is a 5 year research project led by
Professor Anna Davies at Trinity College Dublin <http://www.tcd.ie/> and
funded by the European Research Council
<http://cordis.europa.eu/project/rcn/198611_en.html>. By analysing the
practice of food sharing in cities around the world, SHARECITY will
generate new knowledge of how and why people share food in the 21st Century
and the potential ways that sharing could steer our cities towards enhanced
environmental, economic and social sustainability.
In SHARECITY food sharing is understood to include not only the sharing of
food itself (from seeds to produce and even compost), but also the sharing
of spaces (for growing, cooking or eating), knowledge, and experiences.
‘Food sharing’ can refer to:
*Having* FOOD *with* another or others; e.g. sharing
consumption
*Giving* FOOD *to* others; e.g.
gifting
*Exchanging *FOOD* with *others*; *e.g.
bartering, swapping or selling
*Using, occupying*, or *enjoying* something e.g. shared use of
growing, cooking or eating spaces,
FOOD-related *jointly*; or
sharing growing, cooking or eating experiences
*Possessing an interest* in FOOD *in common *e.g. shared
interest, knowledge, or skills
*or telling someone* about FOOD;
We have been building a database of organisations and activities and at
this stage of our research we are reaching out to you to gather information
for an open access database of food sharing activities all over the world.
We are looking for networks, communities, businesses and organizations that
facilitate food sharing activities such as seed exchanges, food swaps,
communal gardening, supper clubs, knowledge and skills sharing, and the
like.
So please share what you know about food sharing through this brief survey
<http://bit.ly/1RVW5Af>(which can be completed more than once).
