Don't forget to register your interest for the British Science Association W. Yorkshire branch's 'Discover science through comics' exhibition for British Science Week 2016: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/discover-science-through-comics-tickets-21519550555
13th March, 11am - 7pm, White Cloth Gallery (right next to the station)
THE EXHIBITION:
Science + comics = awesome. Discover science through comics breaks the barriers between science and art by showcasing a variety of comics and animations that accessibly communicate an array of topical scientific subjects.
THE DROP-IN WORKSHOP:
Come and work with comics artists from Newcastle Science Comic to draw your own comics. Join in with the creepy-crawlies and invertebrates theme, or explore the wider world of science and comics. These drop-in activities are for children age 7-107, with their families. Children must be accompanied by adults. You’re welcome to stay for as long or short a time as you’d like – just turn up on the day, there’s no need to book.
THE TALK (5.30-6.30pm):
A story of how Newcastle Science Comic has made 2 big and 1 little anthologies of science comics, as collaborations between science researchers and comics creators. This talk by their Editor In Chief Lydia Wysocki will give you a closer look at NSC’s projects to see what comics can do that other mediums can’t. Lydia will focus on Newcastle Science Comic’s anthologies (Asteroid Belter, Spineless, and Science FACT-ion), then also look at their other comics projects with young people, archives, and libraries as Applied Comics Etc. There’ll be time for questions and chatting, and an invitation to keep in touch through the Applied Comics Network.
