The University of Sussex is seeking to appoint two temporary posts to work on an 18 month project to catalogue and digitise the University’s Centre for German Jewish Studies collections. Both posts will be based in Special Collections at The Keep, reporting to the Special Collections Manager and working closely with colleagues from the Centre for German Jewish Studies.

Full time, fixed term for 18 months, Salary range: starting at £28,143 and rising to £31,656, per annum
We are seeking to appoint an experienced and enthusiastic qualified archivist, with demonstrable experience of cataloguing complex archival collections and a working knowledge of the German language. The post holder will be responsible for the processing and cataloguing of the Centre for German Jewish Studies’ archival collections, and the augmentation of existent catalogues, in order to increase accessibility for research and engagement. The catalogues will be created using archival descriptive standards, using the CALM archival management system. The post holder will work closely with academic colleagues and external organisations to identify relevant features within the collection for use in engagement and will also contribute to the selection of materials for digitisation and the identification of the preservation and conservation needs of the collection.

Part time 18.25 hours per week, fixed term for 18 months, Salary range: starting at £20,400 and rising to £23,619 per annum, pro rata
We are seeking to appoint an experienced and enthusiastic individual, with demonstrable experience of using a variety of scanning and photographic equipment for the purpose of digitising documents. The post holder will be responsible for the creation and processing of digital images to archival preservation standards, and uploading these images to web platform in order to increase their accessibility for research and engagement. The post holder will work closely with senior colleagues to identify relevant features within the collection for use in engagement. This post is part time for 18.25 hours per week and will be based at The Keep during opening hours.
