Duties and Responsibilities
The MRC Clinical Trials Unit at UCL is a centre of excellence for clinical trials, meta-analyses and epidemiological studies. Work within the Unit falls into one of three main themes: Infectious Disease, Cancer and other Non-Infectious Diseases, and Methodology.
The Unit currently employs around 200 multidisciplinary staff, including 45 statisticians, involved in both applied and methodological research. The Unit has an inclusive culture and statisticians are encouraged to develop expertise in their specific disease area and to eventually play an integral role in the design, execution, and analysis of the studies in which they are involved.
The main task is responsibility for statistical aspects of a portfolio of randomised trials, within the Infections Theme. The post holder will also take wider responsibility for day to day management of statistical aspects of the studies
The main trial for which statistical support will be provided is STREAM, a large multi-centre randomised non-inferiority trial in multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB). The trial is evaluating shorter regimens for the treatment of MDR-TB and is being conducted in several sites in Africa and Asia with sites set to open in Eastern Europe and Latin America.
