Hi all
I thought there may be some discussion of the Culture White Paper by now.
Have seen a bit on Twitter, but mainly around funding to deliver it, and
the proposed review of museums. Find it at
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/culture-white-paper
As it's technically Friday, I thought I'd share a couple of things that
struck me from first impressions:
- it's called a *culture* white paper but the wording soon changes to arts
and culture, and then the comms I have seen focus almost exclusively on the
arts. It feels like there's a danger of museums being sidelined.
- regarding digital, the contents page (
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CeTQiZCXIAADWdc.jpg:large) sets out a broad
range of aspirations. Most entries have a 'we will' or at least a 'should'
but the one specific line about digital just says - "Technology is
expanding the ways in which we make and experience culture; the digital
dimension is becoming a ‘place’ in itself" - which makes me feel like I'm
back in the early 2000s and gives no clue, let alone guidance or vision, as
to what the end goal is.
Though as one tweet wonderfully put it #whendidawhitepaperchangetheworld (

Cheers, James
