Hello all,
Last week I circulated a request about entry to university libraries or borrowing items without an ID card.
Here is a summary of the responses.
There were eleven responses
Cardless entries.
One university did not allow entry at all without an ID card.
One university allowed entry 12 times a year and another 15 times a year
Three universities had no limit
The remaining five universities each had a yearly limit of between 2 and 5 entries
Borrowing without an ID card
Seven universities do not routinely issue items without ID card
Four universities do issue items with ID card. However, in all cases they ask for additional ID and/or check their details on the LMS.
Thanks to all those who replied
Sean

Subject: Day passes and borrowing items without ID. University libraries
At Sussex we are reviewing our policies and procedures relating to entry to the library using a day pass and borrowing items with no formal university or ID card.
To enter the library, users either use their university ID on the gate, or they can obtain a day pass from a self-service kiosk which provides reference services only.
First question: If your library uses a card entry system, how many 'cardless' visits can a user have (day/week/month/year) before they cannot enter, without using proper university ID.
Second question: Does your library routinely let users issue items without using their library/ID card. If yes, what sort of ID would you expect to see, day-pass, other ID.
Will circulate a summary in due course
Thanks
Sean
