is not valued in its own right, but is subject to the often arbitrary

you might also be interested to know that modern languages at Nottingham is
one of only 3 ref units of assessment to achieve the university's preferred
benchmark of being in the top 5 nationally for research power, and the only
one in the faculty of arts - yet is being subjected to the most severe cuts.
