PhD in Childhood Obesity Prevention in Africa
An MRC-funded PhD studentship is available at the MRC Epidemiology Unit at the University of Cambridge to work closely with the MRC/Wits Developmental Pathways for Health Research Unit at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa.
The studentship will focus on the development of an obesity prevention intervention in primary school children in Soweto or possibly other regions of South Africa. The successful candidate will undertake various projects, potentially including evidence synthesis, and quantitative and qualitative research focused on physical activity and dietary behaviour in primary school children. The student will also be expected to spend significant amounts of time conducting fieldwork in South Africa.
The studentship will commence in October 2016. This is a 3-year position for those who have a Masters degree, or equivalent training, in an appropriate scientific discipline. We provide diverse training opportunities for all aspects of research and for transferable academic and generic skills. The academic requirement for entry is a first or upper second class degree or equivalent.
