Hi Mike This is something I am really interested in too. It feels especially important for history/ethnographic collections where the individual objects are not the centre of the experience (unlike in an art museum) but where groupings of objects can tell a story that gives them meanings and explains their significance perhaps better than a "about this object" text in an online collection interface. I don't think that there are lots of great examples in the museum sector (the Wellcome work is certainly v good). Journalism is really starting to explore storytelling in interesting multimedia ways. I guess the best/first example is Snowfall: http://www.nytimes.com/projects/2012/snow-fall/ But there are dozens of others which someone is kindly documenting in this list: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NnTg-KfmEpWeLtCm7zMK-THWyzHIDdaeWaoYtQMAyPQ/edit#gid=0 A few museum examples which are interesting on one way or another though not really like the Wellcome stories: http://www.bbc.com/future/bespoke/story/20150430-rosetta-the-whole-story/index.html http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/ http://www.bl.uk/romantics-and-victorians http://ingenious.org.uk/Read/ http://airandspace.si.edu/exhibitions/outside-the-spacecraft/online/ http://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/online_science/explore_our_collections/stories <- this thing has some terrible performance issues so go to load the page and then go and make a cuppa... Here are a few related articles on this subject which are with a read: http://mw2015.museumsandtheweb.com/paper/the-whole-story-and-then-some-digital-storytelling-in-evolving-museum-practice/ https://storytellinginthedigitalage.wordpress.com http://www.niemanlab.org/2012/11/the-future-of-the-feature-breaking-out-of-templates-to-build-customized-reading-experiences/ http://www.trevorowens.org/2014/02/a-draft-style-guide-for-digital-collection-hypertexts/ http://alistapart.com/article/building-nonlinear-narratives-for-the-web John PS.
