I missed yesterdays email traffic that your query elicited so apologies if this below has already been said.
Another option is talking to software developers with platforms that use NFC tags, Beacons and QR Codes to link to content by location.
I list one below (TUOMI) who have installed in a few European museums and have had very good user reviews.
Their digital signage and content management platform is agnostic on NFC or QR Codes or Beacons, etc.

The brochure (I only have an NFC version) will give you some idea of the possibilities.
In any event, I agree with the negative comment on QR Codes - NFC tags may be a better route but you may need all three as not all phones are NFC enabled).
