Dear Colleagues,
**Apologies for cross posting **
We would like to invite you to attend an exciting two day symposium organised by the Centre for Medical Humanities and Anthropology Department at Durham University as part of the Life of Breath project (details below). Please circulate widely.
Breathing in Context: historical and cross cultural perspectives on breath
Joachim Room, College of St Hild & St Bede, Durham University
Tue 8 – Wed 9 March 2016
Please join us for an interdisciplinary two day symposium, organised by the Centre for Medical Humanities and Anthropology Department at Durham University as part of the Life of Breath project. It offers an exciting platform to explore, discuss and gain insight into the perception and experience of breath and breathing practices both historically and cross-culturally.
Speakers will present short papers on breath from the perspective of different cultures and historical periods. These will be followed by table discussion to fully explore the topics which include smoking, Buddhist psychology and breathing technologies. A full list of speakers and titles is available here http://lifeofbreath.org/index.php/event/breathing-in-context-historical-and-cross-cultural-perspectives-on-breath/<redir.aspx?REF=vBNCtMsXeU8CC3ZhSyY-rP6WsdLLGN7gH-jZtsWkI5DNUjdetzPTCAFodHRwOi8vbGlmZW9mYnJlYXRoLm9yZy9pbmRleC5waHAvZXZlbnQvYnJlYXRoaW5nLWluLWNvbnRleHQtaGlzdG9yaWNhbC1hbmQtY3Jvc3MtY3VsdHVyYWwtcGVyc3BlY3RpdmVzLW9uLWJyZWF0aC8.>
