As part of its 50th Anniversary Lectureship Scheme Lancaster University is 
currently advertising six positions in key challenge areas of data 
science. The Anniversary Lectureships are designed to identify academic 
leaders of the future and attract the highest calibre of applicants. 
Benefits include no direct teaching load for at least the first two years 
and the opportunity to play an influential role in Lancaster's new Data 
Science Institute. Three of the positions are directly associated with 
Lancaster’s Data Science Institute, with additional Data Science related 
posts advertised in Pervasive Data Science, Network Modelling and Social

As part of a major investment in Data Science we are seeking applications 
from outstanding individuals for three new academic positions in 
Lancaster’s Data Science Institute. This is an opportunity to join a 
world-leading community of researchers at an exciting time. Data Science 
is a key area of growth for Lancaster University and is founded on 
historic strengths in Computer Science, Statistics and Operational 
Research coupled with an outstanding track record in multidisciplinary 
research. 
 
The posts form part of strategic investment that has seen the University 
make a substantial commitment in the form of over 15 new data science 
related academic positions in the last 12 months.Together with more than 
70 academics with existing expertise at Lancaster, these positions are a 
key part of the new world-class, multidisciplinary Data Science Institute 
that is starting to set the global standard for an interdisciplinary 
approach to contemporary data-driven research challenges in areas 
including data and society, health, and the environment. Appointments will 
help play a key role in shaping this exciting new initiative. 
 
Applications are particularly encouraged from those who can make 
significant contributions in one of the following key areas of Data 
Science: 
 
Trust, privacy and ethics of data 
Data visualisation 
On-line inference 
Novel systems architectures for data science 
The posts are available at grades 7 and 8 (Lecturer, equivalent to 
Assistant Professor), according to the experience and research 
track-record of the successful candidates.

Lectureship in Network Modelling 
 
50th Anniversary Lectureships - Mathematics and Statistics 
Salary:   £33,574 to £46,414

We are seeking outstanding individuals in the areas of statistical 
analysis and modelling of networks. Applications are encouraged from those 
who can make fundamental contributions to the statistical methods and 
theory for network data or the probabilistic modelling of such data, 
especially in the presence of massive data. We are particularly keen for 
candidates to have experience working at the interface of methodology and 
application, and an interest in research that can lead to impact on how we 
make sense from real-world networks. 
 
This is an opportunity to join a world-leading community of researchers at 
an exciting time. The successful candidates will be based within the 
Statistics group at Lancaster. This group consists of around 25 faculty, 
50 PhD students and 5 PDRAs. It has an outstanding research track record 
as evidenced in research assessment exercises and provides a vibrant 
environment for researchers with excellent facilities and support. The 
group co-runs  STOR-i (www.stor-i.lancs.ac.uk), the only Doctoral Training 
Centre in the UK specifically focused at the statistics and OR interface. 
 
The post forms part of ongoing strategic investment in Statistics and Data 
Science at Lancaster that includes three other 50th Anniversary 
Lectureships currently advertised in Data Science. These are on top of 
recent investment that has seen the establishment of new groups in 
Statistical Learning and in Probability, as well as five posts in Data 
Science filled in 2015.

As part of a major investment in Data Science we are seeking applications 
from outstanding individuals with interests in Social Statistics/Data 
Science to join the Child and Family Justice Research Centre. The Centre 
is a new interdisciplinary research grouping resulting from collaboration 
between Sociology, the Lancaster Law School and the Data Science 
Institute. The Centre aims to achieve step-change in child and family 
justice research through innovative national and international research 
that sheds new light on outcomes for children and families. You must have 
a keen interest in social issues, and either hold or be willing to develop 
substantive knowledge of law and policy relating to children and families. 
 
In addition, you will join Lancaster’s vibrant Data Science Institute. 
Data Science is a key area of growth for Lancaster University and is 
founded on historic strengths in Computer Science, Statistics and

You must be able to bring to the Centre a range of statistical/data 
science methodologies for working with quantitative social science data 
and must be able to work across disciplinary boundaries. Applications are

Experience in working with administrative and survey datasets 
Experience or keen interest in range of data linkage techniques. 
An interest in cohort studies and linked clinical trials data
