How to Collect Qualitative Data for Evaluation

THE WORKSHOP
This is an introductory workshop focused on why and how qualitative data can
be collected for evaluation purposes. Emphasis will be on qualitative
research designs and data collection. This workshop will help you address
the following questions:
- Why use qualitative methods for evaluation?
- Which qualitative evaluation methods are most appropriate to your
evaluation question or situation?
- How can you develop a good interview or focus group guide?
- How do you avoid common pitfalls of qualitative evaluation design and
data collection?
- How can effective interview or focus groups be conducted?
- How can you gather qualitative evaluation data under tight resource
and time constraints?
This workshop is part of a series aimed to address the entire process of
qualitative evaluation. For our workshop on *analysing *qualitative data
once you have it, we have a workshop on *4th March, also in London*.

THE SPEAKERS
Shaun Romain
Shaun Romain is an independent consultant with over 20 years’ experience of
evaluation in the context of cultural business development, engagement and
education programmes. He has experience of working with qualitative
evaluation data from both an internal and external perspective.
Dr Eric Jensen Dr Eric Jensen (Associate Professor, Sociology Dept,
University of Warwick) is a leading social scientist specialising in
innovative methods of conducting impact evaluation research. He holds a PhD
in Sociology from the University of Cambridge and has led many
groundbreaking projects on new social research technologies.
