Friday question - open to all nationalities.
There has been much discussion in the papers and media of late
regarding the need for a more appropriate English 'national anthem' to
be played at the beginning of certain sporting events.
It has been argued that the hymn 'Jerusalem' could be adopted as the
English anthem. This hymn, though it has a fine tune and uplifting
words is however somewhat dated. Its religious message doesn't reflect
the view of many in England, and some components of this message
belong to a previous age.
Perhaps William Blake's work could be modified to reflect a more modern England.
Perhaps 'dark satanic' could be replaced with 'Grade One Listed'?
Personally I like, "There'll Always Be An England",
https://youtu.be/-GvkyKEYRnM though perhaps the reference to 'Empire'
might need a bit of tweaking.
