We are fully self-service in terms of generation and printing, but students are required to bring the letters to the Registry for stamping. The students have a menu of bank branches in the local area to choose from to address the letter and can request the addition of new addresses. The salutation varies by bank depending on whether they prefer the letter addressed to 'The Manager' or 'The Bank'. Beyond this automated customisation no other changes are made.
This year for the first time one particular bank started refusing to accept our digital signatures until they had been countersigned AND stamped. I'm not entirely sure what this proves, and is particularly frustration since I am a customer of this particular bank and ALL the official communication I get from them is now paperless and bears a digital signature.
Our council tax certificates run through the same system, so again are fully self-service in terms of generation and printing, but students are required to bring the letters to the Registry for stamping. We have very few issues with these and those that do arise tend to be resolved by council staff contacting us directly.
We don't provide any letters self-service that do not require printing and stamping, but will email .pdfs directly if asked.

Subject: Status letters
Hi,
We are trying to improve our service to students, particularly at the beginning of the Academic year, and we are looking at how we provide status letters to the students. I can't see anything recent on this. I wondered whether this provision is causing anyone else problems. We wanted to provide them electronically but the message from the banks is that electronic copies are not acceptable. In fact, the banks seem to be demanding more e.g. letter must be addressed to a specific branch. Any comments would be gratefully accepted.
Regards
Sharon
