Javad,
This is very sad news.
Ron was the first DPI World Chairperson elected at the founding meeting of
DPI in Singapore in 1981.
He was one of the key disability activists who decided to break away from
Rehabilitation International to form Disabled Peoples' International when RI
refused to elect an equal number of people with disabilities to the RI World
Council at their World Assembly in June 1980 in Winnipeg, Canada.
I first met Ron in January 1983 when he attended our founding meeting of DPI
Australia held in Melbourne.
Next met him in 1984 when he attended the 1st DPI Asia Pacific Regional
Assembly in Adelaide. There following his visit to Poland in 1984 he was
first to introduce the classic Polish war cry 'Nothing About Us Without Us'
to DPI.
Over many years I had the pleasure to work with Ron during his active years
in DPI World meetings, Asia Pacific Regional meetings, UN ESCAP and DPI
Singapore.
Condolences to his family and friends.
Regards, Frank

Subject: [IDA_CRPD_Forum] Announcement of the Death of Mr. Ron
Chandran-Dudley
It is with profound sadness that we inform you of the passing of Mr Ron
Chandran-Dudley, one of the founders of Disabled People's International
(DPI).
Mr Dudley passed away this afternoon in Singapore, 30 December 2015.
A strong champion of disability rights, Mr Dudley was deeply committed to
improving the lives of persons with disabilities. He always stood for what
is right and just. For many years, Mr Dudley worked tirelessly to break down
the physical and attitudinal barriers faced by persons with disabilities. Mr
Dudley's dedication to the disability cause at both local and international
levels has won him many accolades over the years. Mr Dudley was truly an
extraordinary person.
His passing is a great loss to DPI and to the global disability community as
a whole.
Mr Dudley will be profoundly missed by everyone whose lives he touched.
Nevertheless, his name and legacy will live on in perpetuity.
Javed Abidi
Global Chair, DPI
