I would be happy to do a review of Walt Brainerd's book for you - if you 
don't get any better qualified offers.  I do get queries from some of my 
colleagues from time to time, who are e.g. proficient in C or IDL or 
Matlab or Python, but who encounter our existing body of Fortran code 
(mostly Fortran95) and are sometimes baffled.  Apart from Metcalfe, 
Reid, and Cohen I don't know of any text books suitable for them. 
Brainerd's book might be (from your description) a bit too oriented to 
beginners, but maybe not.
