Postdoctoral Statistician
MRC Biostatistics Unit
Cambridge
4 years Fixed Term Post
£27,084-£30,486 per annum
The MRC Biostatistics Unit undertakes research on statistical methods and their application to the design, analysis and interpretation of biomedical studies, to advance understanding of the cause, natural history and treatment of disease, and to evaluate public health strategies. A research team under the direction of Professor Vern Farewell aims to develop statistical methods for the analysis of complex observational and longitudinal data that arise in medical research. In addition, the research team has significant involvement in a variety of substantive medical research projects, particularly in the field of rheumatology.
We are seeking a statistician to contribute to this research team. Current research interests include multi-state models, joint modelling of longitudinal and time to event processes, and the development of two-part models for "zero-heavy" longitudinal data. Primary medical research collaborations are in the field of rheumatology. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the on-going statistical methodological research and to the substantive medical collaborations, particularly those in systemic lupus erythematosus. Development of new areas of research that are relevant to the goals of the research team would be encouraged.
By the time you take up the appointment, you will have a PhD in a strongly quantitative subject, ideally statistics. Experience on statistical models for the analysis of longitudinal data or time-to-event data would be desirable. You will be supported in your career development with a range of formal courses and on-the-job training.
Starting salary will be in the range of £27,084-£30,486 per annum, supported by a flexible pay and reward policy, 30 days annual leave entitlement, and an optional MRC final salary Pension Scheme. The post will be in the new MRC Post-Doctoral Training Scheme, which offers formal training programme (including a mentor) together with the payment of additional settlement and training allowances.
The MRC is a unique working environment where our researchers are rewarded by world class innovation and collaboration opportunities that the MRC name brings. Choosing to come to work at the MRC means that you will have access to a whole host of benefits from a final salary pension scheme and excellent holiday entitlement to access to employee shopping/travel discounts and salary sacrifice cycle to work scheme and childcare vouchers, as well as the chance to put the MRC on your CV in the future.
