As many of us work individually, an award to recognise individual achievement would be most appropriate.

Dear David,
Sounds great! We hadn't heard of the Lucies before but a Cultural Heritage Award sounds like a really great idea. It would be great to have somewhere to share and celebrate the achievements of our sector, and highlight our work on a broader scale.
An award for Achievement in Cultural Heritage Imaging which demonstrates a new contribution to or advancement of knowledge? Would the award be for the production of images only, or could there also be an award for innovative solutions to displaying/interacting/engaging with images?
I agree that in our sector, an individual award may not be appropriate and instead it would be good if the award was open to team/project etc.
We look forward to hearing other people's thoughts.
Cheers
Gwen

Subject: Lucie Awards
Dear all
Since leaving the Tate, one enjoyable role I have been offered is to become chairman of the advisory board for the Lucie Awards www.lucies.org which is mainly based in the USA. Their goal is to emulate the oscars but for photography. There are a number of main Lucie award categories plus some secondary categories and there is also an International Photography Awards competition. They have also expressed a desire for the Lucies to be more international on all levels.
Speaking to them earlier this week we were discussing their wish to widen the scope of the awards, I mentioned the cultural heritage sector as a potential area of interest, fully expecting a polite rejection of the idea. However, they became very interested indeed in the notion of highlighting our sector on an international platform. I did spell out that maybe it could be seen as being not that sexy and there is a heavy technical emphasis to our work but they were and still are very enthusiastic about the possibility of promoting and supporting our sector within the Lucie Awards scheme.
So with this in mind I thought a good first step would be to gauge opinion. Please let me know if you have a view on this, and any ideas on how it could be approached would be very well received too. I have a very positive view and I think it can only benefit our area of the industry, particularly the young talent we now have entering the sector. Much great creative input as well as technical and scientific work is being carried out, so it's quite a wide gamut to consider. It could be as simple as an all encompassing award for Achievement in Cultural Heritage or there could be a number of categories to look at? It needn't be an individual, it could be a team? a project? etc etc
What do you think?
Thanks
Dave Clarke
