Archives Inspire

Archives Inspire 2015-19<http://enews.nationalarchives.gov.uk/MAN-3ULXC-3BQD2M-1VE0GV-1/c.aspx> is our new four-year strategy. Four years ago we set ourselves the goal of building the infrastructure needed by a modern national archive. As a result, we are more efficient, more sustainable and more effective than ever before. But we aren’t content to stop there.

Over the next four years, we are planning to think and organise ourselves differently to meet the needs of each of our major audiences and to tackle our biggest strategic challenge – digital.

Together we can face these challenges and change how people think about archives.

Explore Your Archive

Explore Your Archive<http://enews.nationalarchives.gov.uk/MAN-3ULXC-3BQD2M-1VE0GW-1/c.aspx> launch week (14-22 November 2015) was a phenomenal success with more archives taking part than ever before.

Tweets using #explorearchives achieved a social reach of over 25 million and all the hashtags were trending topics on their allocated day.

Explore Your Archive is our campaign to increase public awareness of the role archives play in society. It aims to encourage as many people as possible to visit an archive, especially new audiences. Thank you to all those who took part.

If you haven't already, please complete the survey<http://enews.nationalarchives.gov.uk/MAN-3ULXC-3BQD2M-1VE0GX-1/c.aspx> to help us fully evaluate this year's activity.

M<http://enews.nationalarchives.gov.uk/MAN-3ULXC-3BQD2M-1VDK48-1/c.aspx>anaging archives in museums

We have created a new online publication called Successfully Managing Archives in Museums<http://enews.nationalarchives.gov.uk/MAN-3ULXC-3BQD2M-1VE0GY-1/c.aspx> in collaboration with the Association of Independent Museums (AIM).

Part of AIM’s Success Guide, this new publication has been created to help museum staff and volunteers understand archive collections management and to support them in their decision making.

The guide also introduces some of the theory behind managing archives and providing access to them, with case studies and examples of best practice throughout.

Successfully Managing Archives in Museums can be downloaded from the AIM website.<http://enews.nationalarchives.gov.uk/MAN-3ULXC-3BQD2M-1VE0GY-1/c.aspx>

Fundraising for archives

Fundraising for Archives is a development programme offering training for archivists and archive organisations to help them enhance their skills and capacity and become confident fundraisers. Our vision is to transform fundraising in the archive sector, thereby helping to make the sector sustainable and resilient in the current economic and political environment.

We want to invite you to join a small group of colleagues from the sector to receive a tailored programme of training, mentoring and fundraising support. Our trainers will work with you on diagnosing your level of needs and will design a programme to suit you.

We are planning to run four groups in England, Scotland and Wales from January to June 2016. You can find out more and download the application form here<http://enews.nationalarchives.gov.uk/MAN-3ULXC-3BQD2M-1VE0GZ-1/c.aspx>.

Developing Discovery

Over the past year we have begun work on a set of administrative tools for Discovery which will help us to curate data and enable archives to contribute data directly.

This autumn, we have been running a series of workshops to develop a clear sense of what the wider archives sector would like Discovery to offer. This will help to inform our work and foster focused and transparent development of the Discovery service as a tool for archives and their users. To find more about these workshops and how we are developing a more comprehensive Discovery, read our latest blog post.<http://enews.nationalarchives.gov.uk/MAN-3ULXC-3BQD2M-1VE1Q4-1/c.aspx>

A Year in Archives was published to help organisations showcase the amazing achievements happening in our sector. It is designed to give archives a voice and a tool to be used when communicating with different audiences.

This year the launch was linked to the Explore Your Archive campaign. You can join in by communicating the key messages to your stakeholders and using #YearInArchives on social media.
